JPMorgan Chase, the world’s largest bank by market capitalization, is significantly broadening the reach of its digital asset infrastructure by expanding its JPM Coin deposit token to the Ethereum mainnet. The move marks a major milestone in the Wall Street giant’s ongoing adoption of public blockchain technology, providing its eligible institutional clients with advanced tools for round-the-clock payments and the instantaneous settlement of tokenized asset transactions.

According to details shared in an announcement with Cointelegraph, JPM Coin represents United States dollar deposits held directly at the institution. The system allows approved clients to transfer funds within seconds, operating seamlessly on a 24/7 basis to eliminate traditional banking hour bottlenecks. A spokesperson for the bank confirmed that the deposit token has now been technically deployed on the Ethereum mainnet, moving the product from private permissioned frameworks onto one of the world’s most prominent public blockchain ecosystems.
Emma Landriault, the global head of Kinexys Labs, elaborated on the utility of the expansion, noting that cryptocurrency companies could leverage the token for efficient blockchain-based payments. Meanwhile, traditional financial institutions will be able to utilize the instrument to streamline trade settlements and post collateral dynamically. Landriault explained that JPMorgan deliberately chose Ethereum for this latest deployment due to its deep liquidity profile and its widespread, established usage among the bank’s diverse global client base. Although the digital tokens are issued natively on public networks, JPMorgan emphasized that access to JPM Coin will remain strictly restricted to vetted, approved institutional participants, ensuring compliance and regulatory alignment.

This strategic expansion follows a series of measured steps by JPMorgan into the public blockchain space. It builds directly upon the bank’s rollout of JPM Coin in November 2025 on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network developed and incubated by cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. At the time of that initial layer-2 launch, representatives for JPMorgan signaled that the financial institution maintained broader ambitions to extend support to additional public blockchains as market demand and technological readiness matured. Continuing along that trajectory, JPMorgan announced in January its intentions to bring the USD-denominated JPM Coin natively to the Canton Network, further diversifying its multi-chain strategy.
The growing institutional interest in JPMorgan’s digital settlement tools extends beyond domestic borders. Recent reports have highlighted international experimentation, such as commercial banks in Argentina testing JPMorgan’s JPM Coin as a crypto-dollar mechanism designed to dramatically accelerate cross-border and domestic financial settlements. As traditional financial heavyweights continue to bridge the gap between legacy banking systems and decentralized ledgers, JPMorgan’s integration of Ethereum underscores a shifting paradigm in how institutional liquidity, collateral management, and asset settlement will be handled in the digital age.
