JPMorgan Chase Expands JPM Coin Deposit Token to Ethereum Mainnet

JPMorgan Chase, the world’s largest bank by market capitalization, is significantly broadening the operational reach of its proprietary digital asset infrastructure by expanding its JPM Coin deposit token directly onto the Ethereum network.

According to an official announcement sent to media outlets, JPM Coin is designed to represent United States dollar deposits held securely at the institution, enabling eligible corporate and institutional clients to execute instantaneous fund transfers around the clock, 365 days a year. A spokesperson for the banking giant confirmed that the deposit token has now been technically deployed on the Ethereum mainnet, marking a major milestone in the firm’s ongoing integration of public blockchain technology into traditional financial workflows.

Emma Landriault, the global head of Kinexys Labs—the division under which JPMorgan manages its digital asset initiatives—elaborated on the diverse use cases that this integration unlocks for the market. Landriault noted that cryptocurrency-native companies could effectively leverage the token to facilitate seamless blockchain payments, while traditional financial institutions could utilize the digital asset to streamline trade settlements and post collateral with unprecedented speed and efficiency.

Explaining the strategic rationale behind selecting one of the industry’s most prominent public blockchains, Landriault highlighted that JPMorgan specifically chose Ethereum due to its deep market liquidity and widespread existing adoption among the bank’s diverse client base. Despite being issued on open, public blockchain infrastructure, JPMorgan has emphasized that strict regulatory and operational boundaries will remain in place. JPM Coin will not be open to the general retail public; instead, its access will remain strictly restricted to pre-approved institutional participants who meet the bank’s rigorous compliance and onboarding criteria.

This latest expansion builds steadily upon JPMorgan’s previous strategic deployments within the decentralized finance and layer-2 ecosystems. The move follows the banking institution’s November rollout of JPM Coin on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network that was incubated and built by major cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. At the time of that initial layer-2 deployment, representatives for JPMorgan signaled that the bank harbored broader ambitions to progressively support a wider array of public blockchains as part of its multi-chain enterprise strategy. Continuing along this trajectory, the institution announced plans in January to bring JPM Coin natively to the Canton Network, further underscoring its commitment to interoperability across both permissioned and public distributed ledger environments.

The continuous evolution of JPMorgan’s digital currency initiatives has also captured the attention of international financial markets. Recent reports have highlighted regional adoption tests, such as financial institutions in Argentina experimenting with JPMorgan’s JPM Coin and related crypto-dollar solutions in an effort to drastically reduce the settlement times traditionally associated with cross-border payments and international trade finance. As major global banks increasingly look toward tokenized deposits to modernize legacy infrastructure, JPMorgan’s continued deployment across high-liquidity networks like Ethereum signals a transformative shift in how institutional liquidity, collateral management, and real-time cross-border settlements may be handled in the future.
