Cryptocurrency exchange OKX has successfully raised an undisclosed sum of capital at a formidable $25 billion valuation, drawing participation from a cadre of prominent existing partners and institutional investors. The strategic funding round highlights the continued convergence of traditional financial infrastructure and digital asset platforms, bringing together major players from both legacy banking and the blockchain ecosystem.
The newly announced funding round saw notable participation from Standard Chartered’s SC Ventures investment arm, Qube Research & Technologies, prominent cross-border payments firm Ripple, and stablecoin issuer Circle, according to a press statement released by OKX. While the platform shared the roster of participating institutional backers, OKX explicitly declined to disclose the exact monetary size of the investment round, keeping the specific financial figures private.
This latest capital infusion serves as a direct extension of a substantial funding initiative initially announced in March. During that earlier phase, OKX successfully raised $200 million at the very same $25 billion valuation. That foundational tranche was anchored by the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the heavyweight parent company and operator of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), signaling an early and deep institutional vote of confidence in OKX’s long-term operational vision and regulatory alignment.
According to Star Xu, the founder and chief executive officer of OKX, the fresh capital will be strategically deployed to accelerate the exchange’s ongoing evolution. The primary objective is to facilitate OKX’s transition from a leading digital asset exchange into a broader, more comprehensive global financial technology platform. Xu emphasized that this strategic pivot aims to seamlessly combine advanced cryptocurrency technology with the rigorous standards, security frameworks, and reliability that everyday users and institutions expect from established global financial entities.
The timing of this investment closely follows a major milestone in OKX’s institutional expansion strategy. Just days prior to the funding announcement, a joint venture established between OKX and the Intercontinental Exchange officially filed an application with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The filing seeks regulatory approval to launch an innovative tokenized United States stock trading platform. This proposed marketplace aims to operate under the SEC’s recently introduced innovation exemption framework, marking a significant step toward bringing traditional equities onto blockchain-based ledgers under regulatory oversight.
This development also aligns with OKX’s broader strategic initiatives within the decentralized finance and real-world asset tokenization sectors. OKX Ventures, the investment arm of the exchange, has been actively backing projects focused on bringing real-world assets on-chain, including supporting initiatives centered around real-world asset-backed stablecoins in collaboration with industry partners like Securitize and Hamilton Lane.
As the regulatory landscape for digital assets continues to evolve across major global jurisdictions, the continuous influx of capital from traditional financial giants like Standard Chartered’s SC Ventures, alongside crypto-native heavyweights like Ripple and Circle, underscores a broader institutional trend. Major financial institutions are increasingly positioning themselves at the forefront of digital asset innovation, looking to bridge the gap between traditional capital markets and the burgeoning tokenized economy through strategic equity partnerships and joint technological ventures.
