OKX exchange raises fresh capital at $25B valuation

The latest investment round witnessed direct participation from several major industry players, including SC Ventures, the dedicated venture capital and innovation investment arm of banking giant Standard Chartered. Additional participants in this strategic financing include prominent digital asset and fintech entities such as Qube Research & Technologies, blockchain infrastructure firm Ripple, and major stablecoin issuer Circle. OKX officially disclosed the details of this funding expansion in a press statement shared with Cointelegraph, though the exchange elected to keep the precise financial size of the investment round confidential.

This newly announced capital raise effectively serves as an extension of an earlier funding milestone initially unveiled in March. During that previous phase, OKX secured a substantial $200 million investment at the exact same $25 billion valuation. That March funding round was spearheaded by the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the prominent parent company and operator of the New York Stock Exchange.

According to leadership, the influx of fresh capital is earmarked to accelerate OKX’s ongoing evolution and strategic transition into a much broader global financial technology platform. Star Xu, the founder and chief executive officer of OKX, noted that the overarching vision is to seamlessly bridge advanced digital asset infrastructure with traditional financial rigor. The objective is to combine cutting-edge crypto technology with the rigorous compliance, security, and operational standards that users and regulators naturally expect from premier global financial institutions.

The timing of this investment rollout closely aligns with other aggressive expansion maneuvers by the exchange. Just recently, a newly formed joint venture between OKX and ICE officially submitted a formal regulatory filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing seeks authorization to launch an innovative tokenized United States stock trading platform, operating under the regulatory framework of the commission’s newly established temporary innovation exemption designed to foster technological advancements in market infrastructure.

This regulatory step follows a series of calculated maneuvers by the broader OKX ecosystem to integrate traditional real-world financial assets with blockchain architecture. For instance, OKX Ventures, the investment arm of the exchange, has actively backed initiatives focusing on real-world asset tokenization, including supporting stablecoin projects developed in collaboration with established financial and asset management firms like Securitize and Hamilton Lane.

As the cryptocurrency industry continues to mature and intersect increasingly with traditional banking and capital markets, strategic partnerships with institutional stalwarts like Standard Chartered, Ripple, Circle, and the Intercontinental Exchange highlight a shifting paradigm. By securing continued financial backing and aligning with traditional market giants, OKX is positioning itself at the forefront of the convergence between centralized crypto trading and regulated global financial technology.
