OKX exchange raises fresh capital at $25B valuation

In a press announcement shared with Cointelegraph on Tuesday, the exchange revealed that the strategic investment round saw participation from a diverse group of prominent financial and blockchain institutions. These include SC Ventures, the corporate venture capital investment arm of multinational banking giant Standard Chartered; digital asset quantitative trading firm Qube Research & Technologies; blockchain payments leader Ripple; and prominent stablecoin issuer Circle.

Despite the high-profile backing and the notable valuation milestone, OKX has opted to keep the exact financial size of the investment round undisclosed.

This latest capital infusion serves as a direct extension of a prior funding round originally announced in March. During that earlier phase, OKX raised $200 million at the very same $25 billion valuation. That round was notably spearheaded by the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company operating the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), signaling an early and deepening bridge between traditional equity markets and the digital asset economy.

According to Star Xu, the founder and chief executive officer of OKX, the fresh capital will be strategically deployed to accelerate the company’s ongoing evolution. The exchange aims to transition from a pure-play digital asset marketplace into a broader global financial technology platform. This ambitious transformation involves merging cutting-edge crypto technology with the rigorous compliance, operational standards, and institutional reliability that global financial institutions and mainstream investors have come to expect.

The announcement of this funding extension follows hot on the heels of another major institutional milestone for the platform. On Monday, a newly formed joint venture between OKX and the Intercontinental Exchange officially filed an application with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The filing outlines plans to launch an innovative tokenized United States stock trading platform, operating under the regulatory framework of the commission’s newly established innovation exemption.

This regulatory filing and the ongoing expansion of product offerings highlight OKX’s deepening integration into traditional financial infrastructure. In related developments, OKX Ventures—the investment arm of the exchange—has also actively backed real-world asset tokenization initiatives, including supporting an RWA-backed stablecoin project in collaboration with Securitize and Hamilton Lane.

As the cryptocurrency industry continues to mature and converge with legacy financial markets, funding rounds featuring traditional institutional giants like Standard Chartered and ICE underscore a shifting paradigm in how global financial technology is capitalized and regulated.
