Enova Crosses $1 Billion in Quarterly Revenue for the First Time Driven by Robust Loan Growth

Online lender Enova reached a historic financial milestone during the third quarter of 2026, crossing the $1 billion revenue mark for a single quarter for the very first time. Buoyed by broad-based growth across both its consumer and small business portfolios, the company reported stellar performance metrics that easily outpaced the previous year’s figures. Chief Executive Officer Steve Cunningham shared the record-breaking results on Thursday during an earnings call with analysts and investors, highlighting the organization’s sustained momentum amid a complex macroeconomic climate.

Cunningham expressed satisfaction with the quarter’s trajectory, emphasizing that the financial gains were not limited to a single revenue stream. Instead, the company experienced widespread expansion touching nearly every major operational metric. During the earnings call, Cunningham noted that the company is pleased to report another quarter of healthy growth and credit performance, pointing out that originations, receivables, revenue, and adjusted earnings per share all grew by 25% or more compared to the same period in the prior year.

According to the official press release issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Enova’s originations saw a substantial surge of 31% year-over-year. Meanwhile, the total company combined loans and finance receivables increased by 30%. Revenue grew by 26% compared to the third quarter of 2025, and adjusted earnings per share climbed by an impressive 33%. These metrics underscore a period of aggressive yet controlled expansion for the digital lender, which has continued to capture market share in both consumer finance and small business lending.

Credit quality remained a standout highlight of the quarter, defying concerns that rapid portfolio growth might introduce heightened default risks. Enova’s consolidated net charge-off ratio decreased to 8.1% for the third quarter, showing a noticeable improvement from the 8.5% reported during the same period in 2025. This downward trend in charge-offs signaled continued strength in credit performance and risk management, reassuring investors who closely monitor credit health in non-bank lending institutions.

Cunningham pointed out during the call that the growth in originations was well-balanced, showing strong momentum across both consumer and small and medium-sized business (SMB) segments. By the end of the third quarter, Enova’s consolidated portfolio had expanded to reach $5.9 billion in total assets, marking a 30% increase compared to the portfolio size a year prior. A closer look at the composition of this expansive portfolio reveals that small business products currently account for the lion’s share at 68%, while consumer products make up the remaining 32%. This portfolio mix highlights Enova’s strategic emphasis on serving the financial needs of small businesses, a segment that often struggles to secure adequate credit through traditional banking channels.

The CEO attributed these robust financial outcomes to the underlying resilience of the macroeconomic environment. This resilience has persisted despite ongoing consumer and market anxieties regarding persistent inflation, the future path of interest rates, and potential headwinds facing broader economic growth. Looking ahead, Enova management anticipates that this positive momentum will carry through the remainder of the calendar year, leading the company to expect strong financial results as it closes out 2026.

As the company transitions into the final stretch of the year, leadership remains optimistic about ongoing business conditions. Cunningham noted that as they have moved into the fourth quarter, they continue to see stable growth and strong credit performance across both their consumer and small and medium-sized business verticals, providing a solid foundation for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The strong earnings report follows a major strategic pivot that occurred earlier in the quarter. On September 14, 2026, Enova announced that it had officially withdrawn its bank regulatory applications associated with its previously proposed acquisition of Grasshopper Bancorp. The original agreement, announced in December 2025, envisioned Enova acquiring Grasshopper Bancorp and its wholly owned subsidiary, Grasshopper Bank, for approximately $369 million in a deal intended to secure proprietary digital banking infrastructure.

However, face-to-face with regulatory hurdles and pressure from state attorneys general, Enova elected to scrap the acquisition. When the withdrawal was initially announced in September, Cunningham explained via press release that the company had carefully evaluated the situation and determined that walking away was the best decision for the enterprise and its shareholders. At the time, he also remarked that existing bank regulatory guidelines had failed to keep pace with the modern realities of meeting the vital credit needs of consumers and small businesses who find themselves underserved by traditional banking institutions.

Addressing analysts during Thursday’s earnings call, Cunningham revisited the decision, assuring stakeholders that abandoning the bank acquisition had in no way impaired Enova’s capacity to grow organically and generate healthy profits. He elaborated that the extensive planning, due diligence, and strategic reviews undertaken over the past year actually yielded valuable insights into new products, enhanced operational workflows, and advanced risk management techniques.

According to Cunningham, these newfound insights will ultimately support meaningful, long-term growth by actively defending and extending the company’s competitive advantages. Furthermore, the intellectual capital and technological infrastructure developed during the pursuit will empower Enova to leverage its core competencies in technology and data analytics. This capability will enable the firm to continue capturing market share within its existing core markets, while also thoughtfully pursuing expansion into adjacent markets, whether through direct operations or strategic partnerships.
