Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Treasury Pilot Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a landmark cross-border treasury transfer pilot utilizing blockchain technology and digital assets. The company’s United States and Mexican units completed a $20,000 transaction using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, settling the international payment in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain.

According to details provided by Tether, the proof-of-concept test involved a complete digital currency loop. Hyundai Motor America converted the funds into USDT, transferred the stablecoin across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converted the digital tokens back into traditional US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took roughly seven minutes. This stands in sharp contrast to traditional cross-border bank transfers, which typically require three to four hours—or often several business days—to clear through conventional correspondent banking networks.

The collaborative pilot leveraged specialized financial infrastructure to ensure seamless execution. Tether reported that the transaction utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role by designing the overall remittance structure and meticulously overseeing the regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept safely and transparently.

The primary objective of the pilot was to rigorously evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be successfully integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without necessitating disruptive changes to established governance, compliance, or accounting protocols. Building on the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to advance the initiative into a subsequent phase. This next stage will expand testing to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the firms continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future operational deployment.

Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

Corporate treasury has rapidly evolved into an increasingly vital focus area for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Financial technology firms and enterprise software developers are rolling out products specifically designed to support complex cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and streamline intercompany settlement processes for multinational corporations.

This enterprise push has gained considerable momentum across the software sector. In April, prominent treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to manage digital stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions seamlessly. Furthermore, it enables organizations to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while providing access to vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours through familiar treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from major financial platforms underscores the rising institutional demand for these capabilities. A business report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This significant growth was primarily driven by increasing corporate demand for real-time settlement, efficient treasury management, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period were traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys further highlight accelerating enterprise adoption across multiple industries. A June report published by Paybis indicated that 22.5% of surveyed businesses already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively plan to incorporate them into their operations within the next 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This expanding commercial utility coincides with robust overall growth within the broader digital asset economy. According to data tracked by DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% from $257.1 billion a year earlier. Within this expanding market, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value, serving as a primary instrument for both retail trading and institutional cross-border finance.
