Zcash Extends Rally as Developers Lock In November 5 Target for NU7 Mainnet Upgrade

Zcash (ZEC) has extended its impressive triple-digit year-to-date gains, surging approximately 12% over a recent 24-hour trading period following a major development milestone. Core developers have officially agreed on a target mainnet activation block for the network’s highly anticipated NU7 upgrade, setting their sights on early November.

At last check on Wednesday, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency was trading around $1,270 according to data from CoinGecko. This latest upward price movement coincides with a formal proposal submitted on GitHub by Zcash developer Sean Bowe. The proposal sets the target mainnet activation at block 3,543,405, an event that is currently projected to take place on or around November 5.

With this latest surge, the value of the privacy-centric cryptocurrency—which leverages advanced, trustless zero-knowledge proofs to secure user transactions—has climbed by more than 148% since the beginning of the year. The market’s positive reaction underscores growing investor enthusiasm surrounding the network’s technical evolution and its ongoing efforts to enhance overall blockchain efficiency.

The path toward the consensus agreement was solidified during a recent Zcash Improvement Proposal (ZIP) editor meeting. "Height agreed at ZIP editor meeting," Bowe wrote in his GitHub pull request, noting that the development team still needs to finalize the comprehensive upgrade specifications before officially merging the proposal into the main repository. Thus far, two core developers have given their approval to the proposed changes.

The Zakura NU7 dashboard similarly lists the upcoming upgrade as pending on the mainnet at the designated block 3,543,405, reaffirming the expected early November activation timeline.

The NU7 upgrade represents a fundamental shift in how the Zcash network operates, most notably aiming to reduce Zcash’s target block time by two-thirds down to just 25 seconds. By compressing the block interval from the current 75 seconds, the network will enable transactions to receive confirmations significantly faster, vastly improving the user experience and throughput of the blockchain. This accelerated block time has been undergoing rigorous testing since testing phases kicked off in early October.

However, as the network counts down toward the anticipated November launch, developers are simultaneously working through a remaining checklist of technical tasks. According to the Zcash Foundation’s NU7 readiness tracker, six out of 12 required tasks have been successfully completed so far. The remaining work primarily involves addressing ongoing Zebra node synchronization issues and carrying out necessary mainnet deployment preparations.

As of press time, core developers have not yet confirmed whether these outstanding synchronization challenges could potentially impact or delay the planned activation date, leaving the community watching both the code repositories and node readiness metrics closely. The testnet activation of NU7 earlier in October provided a successful proving ground, but the final push toward mainnet integration remains a critical hurdle for the engineering teams involved.
