Prediction market platform Trueo has announced plans to migrate its operations from Coinbase’s Layer 2 network, Base, back to the Ethereum mainnet. The protocol cited broader integration opportunities, enhanced product upside, and the upcoming development of its next-generation oracle system as the primary catalysts for the cross-network move.
The project originally launched on Base in March 2025 during a period when Ethereum mainnet gas fees were significantly higher and certain experimental features of the application required the lower transaction costs and scalability offered by a Layer 2 network. However, as the protocol matures and prepares for its next phase of growth, its developers believe that the Ethereum mainnet offers a superior environment for its long-term vision, particularly regarding decentralization, security, and global accessibility.
Following the upcoming migration, Trueo’s immediate strategic priorities will center on attracting new liquidity to the protocol and deploying the next iteration of its oracle system. In the decentralized finance and prediction market sectors, an oracle is the critical infrastructure component used to securely gather, verify, and relay real-world data and outcomes. These verified outcomes are what ultimately determine how prediction markets are resolved and how payouts are distributed to participants.
According to data from DefiLlama, Trueo currently holds the position of the 14th-largest onchain prediction market platform, boasting a total value locked of approximately $795,687. As the platform prepares to transition its infrastructure to the mainnet, the team hopes that moving to Ethereum will unlock deeper liquidity pools and open doors to broader composability with other decentralized finance protocols.

Explaining the rationale behind the upcoming transition, a Trueo co-founder who goes by the pseudonym "Lumberg" took to the social media platform X to share insights regarding the project’s architectural evolution. Lumberg emphasized that Ethereum remains the premier blockchain network for protocols striving to establish credibly neutral and truthful decentralized infrastructure.
Expanding on these sentiments in an official statement shared via X, the Trueo team reflected on their initial decision to launch on a Layer 2 network like Base. They noted that as a newly deployed application and experimental decentralized finance product, launching on Base was a pragmatic choice driven by technical and economic realities at the time. Mainnet gas costs were still elevated, and the application’s developers needed a sandbox-like environment where experimental features could be thoroughly tested and refined without imposing heavy financial burdens on early users.
Nevertheless, the team stressed that the long-term trajectory of the project demands a different foundational layer. The final incarnation of Trueo is intended to function as a globally adopted platform characterized by deep cross-ecosystem integration, a fully permissionless framework, a mostly immutable code structure, and a high degree of credibility. In the view of the project’s founders, Ethereum provides the optimal alignment of technological properties to support this ambitious combination of traits, contrasting with Base where integrations and partnerships are largely constrained to the immediate surrounding ecosystem.
The decision by Trueo highlights a broader, ongoing architectural dialogue within the decentralized application ecosystem regarding the trade-offs between Layer 2 scaling solutions and Layer 1 mainnets. While Layer 2 networks have successfully lowered barriers to entry for retail users by drastically reducing transaction fees and speeding up confirmation times, some protocols eventually outgrow these environments as they seek the deepest possible liquidity, maximum censorship resistance, and native composability with the broader Ethereum decentralized finance stack.
As the decentralized prediction market sector continues to gain traction—bolstered by major global events such as sports tournaments that generate billions of dollars in blockchain prediction market volume, as tracked by analytics firms like Chainalysis—protocols are increasingly forced to carefully evaluate their underlying infrastructure choices. For Trueo, the path forward involves leaving the nest of a prominent Layer 2 network to anchor itself directly to Ethereum’s main security layer, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s lifecycle as it prepares to scale its oracle infrastructure and expand its market footprint.
