Crypto PAC Fairshake and Affiliates Pour Millions into US House Races Ahead of Midterms

As the United States approaches a critical electoral cycle, affiliate entities of Fairshake—the prominent political action committee heavily backed by industry heavyweights including Andreessen Horowitz, Coinbase, and Ripple Labs—have reported millions of dollars in targeted ad buys. These financial maneuvers are designed to support congressional candidates whom the crypto sector views as steadfast champions of pro-digital asset policy.

Recent filings submitted to the US Federal Election Commission (FEC) detailed a combined $2.7 million in media spending orchestrated by the Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress PACs. These two influential Fairshake affiliates reported substantial expenditures directed toward media campaigns and direct mail productions. The financial backing is strategically split to support both Democratic and Republican candidates vying for seats in the US House of Representatives for the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

The FEC disclosures highlighted significant individual investments, including more than $76,000 allocated for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer and approximately $73,000 designated for House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn Thompson. Furthermore, the filings revealed substantial expenditures of $512,000 supporting California Representative Pete Aguilar and $500,000 backing New Jersey Representative Josh Gottheimer.

These federal disclosures followed closely on the heels of a major announcement from Fairshake just days prior. The overarching PAC revealed its strategic plan to endorse an additional 32 House candidates for the 2026 cycle. This expansive strategy includes provisions for six specific candidates to each receive $1 million in supportive media backing. Interestingly, while none of the aforementioned six primary beneficiaries were listed in the immediate Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress expenditure reports, several key congressional incumbents—such as Emmer, Aguilar, Gottheimer, and Thompson—did feature prominently across both the broader endorsement slate and the recent media buy reports.

The sheer scale of financial firepower wielded by Fairshake underscores the digital asset industry’s deepening footprint in American electoral politics. As of August, representatives for Fairshake confirmed that the PAC maintained an impressive $22 million in cash on hand. This robust war chest forms the backbone of a sophisticated midterm election strategy aimed at fundamentally reshaping the composition of Congress to foster a more hospitable regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

Beyond merely boosting friendly incumbents, this aggressive electoral blueprint also encompasses targeted opposition campaigns against lawmakers deemed hostile to the industry. A prime example of this defensive and offensive positioning is playing out in Ohio’s high-stakes Senate race, where Fairshake and its affiliates have allocated at least $30 million toward media buys aimed at opposing the election of former banking committee chair Sherrod Brown. During his tenure in office, Brown consistently established himself as one of the leading Democratic voices voting against legislative initiatives favored by the cryptocurrency sector.

Crypto market structure bill to be a factor in 2026 midterms?

The legislative battlegrounds that initially forged these political alignments continue to cast a long shadow over the current electoral landscape. Notably, all of the primary targets receiving financial support through the recent Fairshake-affiliated spending previously voted in favor of the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act in 2025.

The CLARITY Act was crafted as a sweeping legislative effort designed to establish comprehensive market structure rules for the entire cryptocurrency industry. Among its core provisions, the bill sought to grant the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)—the federal commodities regulator—significantly enhanced authority to oversee and enforce regulations within the digital asset space. While the legislation managed to secure bipartisan support and successfully passed through the House of Representatives, it ultimately hit a roadblock when it failed to pass a crucial procedural vote in the Senate last September.

The failure of the Senate to advance the measure has galvanized political action groups operating within the crypto ecosystem. Stand With Crypto, a prominent advocacy initiative launched by cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase that systematically ranks lawmakers and politicians based on their public statements and voting records regarding the industry, issued stark warnings following the stalled CLARITY vote. The organization cautioned that political candidates who failed to support or advance vital digital asset legislation could face tangible "consequences" at the ballot box during the midterms.

In response, Stand With Crypto has ramped up its efforts to organize and mobilize crypto-conscious voters across the United States for the upcoming election cycle, mirroring the coordinated grassroots and financial mobilization strategies that left a notable mark on the 2024 congressional and presidential races.
