Crypto Super PAC Fairshake and Affiliates Deploy Millions in Media Buys Ahead of US Midterms

Affiliate entities of Fairshake, the prominent United States political action committee heavily backed by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, and Ripple Labs, have reported millions of dollars in fresh media expenditures. The strategic ad buys are designed to support congressional candidates whom the political action committee considers staunchly in favor of pro-digital asset policy, with the country’s midterm elections less than a month away.

According to filings submitted to the US Federal Election Commission (FEC), a combined $2.7 million in spending on media campaigns was reported over the weekend by the Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress political action committees. These two vital Fairshake affiliates detailed expenditures targeting both media placement and direct mail productions to support a carefully selected slate of Democratic and Republican candidates running for seats in the US House of Representatives.

The FEC documentation highlighted significant financial backing distributed across several key congressional figures. Among the reported expenditures were more than $76,000 allocated for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, approximately $73,000 for House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn Thompson, a substantial $512,000 for California Representative Pete Aguilar, and another $500,000 directed toward New Jersey Representative Josh Gottheimer.

These federal filings arrived hot on the heels of a major announcement from Fairshake just days prior. The flagship PAC revealed that it planned to extend official endorsements to an additional 32 House candidates, including a commitment for six of those individuals to each receive $1 million in supportive media backing. Interestingly, none of the specific six candidates slated for the million-dollar packages were included in the immediate Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress expenditures reported over the weekend. However, several influential congressional incumbents did appear on both lists, including Emmer, Aguilar, Gottheimer, and Thompson.

The sheer scale of financial firepower behind Fairshake and its network of allied organizations highlights the digital asset industry’s unprecedented mobilization efforts in American politics. As of August, representatives for Fairshake confirmed that the political action committee boasted a formidable war chest consisting of $122 million in cash on hand. This massive capital reserve forms the backbone of a targeted midterm election strategy explicitly aimed at securing a more crypto-friendly majority in Congress.

This expansive strategy is not merely limited to lifting up favored candidates; it also involves actively opposing politicians deemed hostile or overly restrictive toward the blockchain sector. A prime example of this aggressive counter-strategy is the PAC’s multi-million-dollar effort directed against former Senate Banking Committee Chair Sherrod Brown. Fairshake and its affiliates have allocated at least $30 million toward media buys specifically designed to oppose Brown’s reelection bid in Ohio’s high-stakes Senate race. Throughout his tenure in office, Brown established himself as one of the leading Democratic voices voting consistently against legislative measures viewed as favorable to the broader cryptocurrency and digital asset industry.

Crypto Market Structure Bill to Be a Factor in 2026 Midterms?

The legislative battlegrounds defining the current political cycle are deeply intertwined with specific policy debates that have played out on Capitol Hill over the past several years. Notably, all of the primary legislative targets receiving financial backing from Fairshake’s recent expenditures voted in favor of the Digital Asset Market Clarity, or CLARITY, Act when it came before lawmakers.

The CLARITY Act was introduced with the primary intention of establishing comprehensive market structure rules for the fast-evolving cryptocurrency industry. Among its core provisions, the legislation sought to grant the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a federal commodities regulator, significantly more authority to oversee and enforce regulations across the digital asset ecosystem. Although the bill successfully passed through the House of Representatives with substantial bipartisan support, it ultimately hit a major roadblock when it failed to clear a critical procedural vote in the Senate last September.

The failure of the Senate to advance the legislation did not go unnoticed by major industry advocacy groups. Stand With Crypto, a prominent grassroots initiative launched by Coinbase that systematically ranks lawmakers and politicians based on their public statements and voting records regarding the digital asset industry, issued stark warnings in the aftermath of the failed vote. The group cautioned that any lawmakers who failed to support or advance crucial legislative frameworks could face significant political consequences in the upcoming midterms.

Stand With Crypto has been actively working to mobilize crypto-minded voters across the United States for the upcoming electoral cycle, mirroring the sophisticated mobilization campaigns the organization successfully deployed during the 2024 race cycles. With millions of dollars flowing into key congressional districts and advocacy networks rallying digital asset enthusiasts at the grassroots level, the intersection of cryptocurrency policy and American electoral politics remains a dominant and highly volatile force as the midterm elections draw closer.
