Hyundai completes USDT treasury settlement pilot between US and Mexico

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the digital asset to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the stablecoin back into traditional US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification procedure took approximately seven minutes to complete. In stark contrast, conventional cross-border bank wire transfers between the two regional entities typically require anywhere from three to four hours—and frequently much longer depending on intermediary banking schedules and weekend processing limitations.

The successful pilot was executed using specialized settlement infrastructure developed by Axiym. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card designed the overarching remittance framework and directly oversaw the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational standards necessary to support the high-stakes proof-of-concept.

The primary objective of the initiative was to evaluate whether modern stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be smoothly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without necessitating disruptive modifications to established internal governance frameworks, regulatory compliance protocols, or corporate accounting workflows. Building on the success of this initial trial, the companies are now preparing for a subsequent phase that will expand testing to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future implementation.

Corporate treasury emerges as key stablecoin use case

Corporate treasury management has rapidly evolved into an increasingly critical strategic focus for major stablecoin issuers and fintech providers alike. In response to rising corporate demand, financial technology firms have aggressively rolled out sophisticated products specifically engineered to support seamless cross-border payments, optimized liquidity management, and efficient intercompany settlements.

This enterprise trend gained significant momentum in April, when major treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to monitor and manage stablecoin balances alongside conventional cash positions, settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while working within pre-existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical evidence from institutional market participants further underscores this rapid shift toward digital asset settlement. A comprehensive business report published by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was overwhelmingly driven by surging enterprise demand for real-time settlement capabilities, advanced treasury management tools, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during this period consisted of regulated financial institutions, including traditional commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys and market research continue to point toward accelerated enterprise adoption across multiple industries. A June industry report published by Paybis highlighted that roughly 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively plan to integrate them into their operations within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research conducted by McKinsey and Company, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in aggregate global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This sustained commercial push into blockchain-based rails coincides with the broader, continuous expansion of the global stablecoin market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed steadily to reach approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion valuation recorded just one year prior, according to on-chain data tracked by DefiLlama. Amid this macro growth trend, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin globally by total market capitalization, serving as the foundational asset for major enterprise trials such as the recent cross-border pilot conducted by Hyundai’s North American divisions.
