Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether’s USDT on Avalanche

Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate divisions have successfully completed a landmark pilot cross-border treasury transfer utilizing Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The proof of concept, which settled a $20,000 corporate payment in approximately seven minutes, represents a significant step forward in the exploration of blockchain technology for multinational corporate finance and enterprise liquidity management.

According to details shared by Tether, the transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the Avalanche blockchain network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into fiat US dollars upon arrival. The entire process, inclusive of transfer and cryptographic verification, was completed in about seven minutes. This stands in stark contrast to traditional cross-border banking rails, which typically require anywhere from three to four hours or significantly longer depending on intermediary correspondent banks, time zones, and clearinghouse schedules.

The technical execution of the pilot relied on Axiym’s specialized settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role in designing the overall remittance structure, overseeing the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept within a heavily regulated corporate environment.

The primary objective of the pilot was to rigorously evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to underlying corporate governance, regulatory compliance, or accounting workflows. Building on the success of this initial test, the participating entities plan to expand their testing phase to additional international payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows and automation potential.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

The successful pilot by Hyundai’s regional units underscores a broader, accelerating trend across the global financial and corporate landscape. Corporate treasury operations have rapidly emerged as one of the most vital and fast-growing use cases for stablecoins. Digital asset infrastructure providers are increasingly rolling out enterprise-grade products specifically designed to support frictionless cross-border payments, efficient liquidity management, and streamlined intercompany settlements.

This enterprise push is further evidenced by major developments across financial software ecosystems. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration was engineered to empower corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a unified interface. Furthermore, it enables businesses to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time while unlocking access to liquidity outside of traditional banking hours, all while operating within existing corporate treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Data from the digital asset economy highlights strong organic demand for these capabilities. A business report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was primarily driven by corporate demand for real-time settlement, sophisticated treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Broader business surveys echo these findings, pointing toward steady, mainstream enterprise adoption. A June report published by Paybis indicated that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively plan to implement them within the next twelve months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This institutional and corporate momentum coincides with the continued expansion of the broader stablecoin market. According to data tracking from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion. This figure represents an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion market capitalization registered a year prior, with Tether’s USDT maintaining its position as the largest stablecoin by total market value.
