JPMorgan Chase Expands JPM Coin Deposit Token to Ethereum Mainnet for Institutional Clients

JPMorgan Chase, the world’s largest bank by market capitalization, is significantly broadening the reach of its blockchain-based financial infrastructure by expanding its JPM Coin deposit token to the Ethereum mainnet. The strategic move enables eligible institutional clients to leverage the public blockchain network for streamlined payments and the settlement of tokenized asset transactions with unprecedented speed and efficiency.

In an official announcement shared with Cointelegraph, JPMorgan confirmed that JPM Coin represents United States dollar deposits held directly at the bank. The digital instrument allows approved, eligible corporate clients to transfer funds within a matter of seconds, operating on a continuous 24/7 basis. A spokesperson for the financial institution further clarified that JPM Coin has now been technically deployed on the Ethereum mainnet, marking a major milestone in the bank’s integration of public ledger technology into traditional institutional finance.

Detailing the practical applications of the expansion, Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs, noted that cryptocurrency and digital asset firms could utilize the token for seamless blockchain-based payments. Meanwhile, traditional financial institutions and market participants can leverage the instrument to efficiently settle complex trades and post collateral in real time, bridging the gap between legacy banking systems and decentralized network rails.

Landriault explained that JPMorgan deliberately chose Ethereum for this latest deployment due to its deep liquidity profile and widespread, existing adoption among the bank’s client base. However, despite the tokens being issued on public blockchain networks, strict compliance and access controls remain in place. JPM Coin will continue to be strictly restricted to approved institutional participants who meet all regulatory and onboarding criteria established by the bank.

This latest network expansion directly follows JPMorgan’s November rollout of JPM Coin on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network developed by major cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. At the time of that initial layer-2 deployment, leadership at JPMorgan signaled that the financial institution maintained a broader roadmap to support additional public blockchains as part of its ongoing digital asset strategy. Building further upon this multi-chain approach, JPMorgan announced plans in January to bring JPM Coin natively to the Canton Network, continuing its steady trajectory toward cross-chain interoperability for enterprise-grade digital money.

The scaling of JPM Coin across multiple networks aligns with broader industry experiments examining the utility of bank-backed digital dollars. Recent reporting has highlighted how international financial institutions, such as commercial banks in Argentina, have begun testing JPMorgan’s JPM Coin to dramatically accelerate cross-border settlement times and reduce friction in foreign exchange and international trade operations.

As JPMorgan continues to roll out its deposit token infrastructure across prominent public and enterprise blockchains, the initiative underscores a growing institutional appetite for programmable money that combines the regulatory security of commercial bank deposits with the speed, transparency, and composability of modern distributed ledger technology.
