Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has taken a significant step toward modernizing its financial infrastructure by successfully completing a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was executed between the company’s United States and Mexican corporate units, leveraging the high-speed Avalanche blockchain to achieve near-instantaneous settlement times compared to legacy banking networks.
According to details provided by stablecoin issuer Tether, the proof-of-concept transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the digital asset across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the stablecoin back into traditional United States dollars. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process was completed in approximately seven minutes. By contrast, traditional cross-border bank transfers for similar international corridors typically require anywhere from three to four hours, and often stretch to multiple business days depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and compliance bottlenecks.
The successful pilot relied on specialized technological and regulatory frameworks to ensure seamless execution. Tether noted that the operational test utilized Axiym’s settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a crucial role in the initiative by designing the underlying remittance structure and overseeing the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support a corporate blockchain integration of this scale.
The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be effectively embedded into existing enterprise treasury operations without disrupting established corporate governance, compliance protocols, or internal accounting frameworks. Following the successful completion of this initial phase, the participating entities plan to expand their testing parameters. Future phases will evaluate additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as the automotive conglomerate continues to assess broader enterprise treasury workflows and operational efficiencies.
Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case
The initiative highlights a rapidly growing trend across the global corporate landscape, where enterprise treasury management has emerged as one of the most vital and fast-evolving use cases for stablecoins. Digital asset firms and infrastructure providers are increasingly rolling out institutional-grade products specifically tailored to support complex cross-border payments, liquidity management, and intercompany settlements that historically plagued traditional corporate finance departments with friction and high fees.

This institutional momentum is mirrored by broader software integrations across the financial technology sector. In April, major enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate treasury platform. This collaboration was designed to empower treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions within a unified interface. By leveraging these digital assets, corporate clients can settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, unlocking crucial liquidity outside of standard banking hours while operating entirely within existing enterprise workflows and internal approval controls.
Data from payment processors and business platforms further illustrates the accelerating velocity of institutional adoption. A report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This dramatic growth was primarily propelled by surging commercial demand for real-time settlement capabilities, sophisticated treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of all new business clients onboarded by Bitso Business during the period consisted of established financial institutions, including traditional banks and licensed payment service providers.
Comprehensive business surveys reinforce these growth metrics by demonstrating widespread and growing enterprise acceptance. A June report published by Paybis indicated that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either actively utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or intend to integrate them within the subsequent 12 months. Citing extensive research from management consultancy McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded throughout 2025.
This corporate push into blockchain-based settlement coincides with a period of steady expansion for the broader stablecoin sector. Data compiled by DefiLlama shows that the total market capitalization of the stablecoin market has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Amid this expanding macroeconomic landscape, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market capitalization, serving as the foundational asset for major enterprise experiments like Hyundai’s recent cross-border treasury trial.
