Hyundai Motor Units Complete Cross-Border Stablecoin Treasury Trial Using Tether on Avalanche

Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate entities have successfully completed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer utilizing Tether’s USDT stablecoin, settling a $20,000 transaction in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain. The proof-of-concept trial marks a significant step forward for traditional multinational corporations exploring the practical application of blockchain technology to streamline legacy financial operations.

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin across the Avalanche network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into fiat US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took roughly seven minutes. In stark contrast, traditional cross-border bank transfers for similar international transactions typically require anywhere from three to four hours, and often longer depending on intermediary banking relationships, time zones, and legacy clearing hurdles.

The infrastructure supporting the pilot was multifaceted. Tether reported that the transaction leveraged Axiym’s settlement infrastructure, while Hyundai Card played a pivotal role by designing the remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the complex regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to execute and support the proof of concept securely within corporate guidelines.

This initial test was explicitly designed to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be smoothly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without necessitating sweeping changes to internal governance, compliance protocols, or accounting workflows. Building on the success of this initial milestone, the participating entities plan to expand their testing phase to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future deployment.

Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case

Corporate treasury operations have rapidly evolved into an increasingly important focal point for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Across the global financial landscape, firms are actively rolling out specialized products and enterprise integrations designed specifically to support efficient cross-border payments, optimized liquidity management, and streamlined intercompany settlements.

This institutional momentum is underscored by broader industry developments. In April, prominent enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its corporate treasury platform. This collaboration was engineered to empower treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions seamlessly. Furthermore, it enables companies to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while unlocking access to vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours, all while operating within pre-existing treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Empirical data from the broader fintech sector further highlights this surging enterprise demand. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This substantial growth was primarily propelled by corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, advanced treasury management tools, and reliable cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of new business clients onboarded by the platform during the period consisted of regulated financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Recent business surveys consistently point toward accelerating enterprise adoption curves. A June Paybis report highlighted that 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international B2B payments or actively plan to implement them within the subsequent 12 months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in aggregate global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This expanding corporate integration coincides with sustained growth in the broader digital asset market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has steadily climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing a robust 21.5% increase from the $257.1 billion recorded a year prior, according to data from DefiLlama. Amid this macro expansion, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its dominant position as the largest stablecoin by total market valuation, serving as the foundational asset for major corporate trials like the one recently executed by Hyundai’s North American divisions.
