Hyundai Motor Completes Cross-Border Treasury Transfer Using Tether Stablecoin on Avalanche

Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has successfully executed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, marking another step forward in the integration of blockchain technology into traditional corporate finance. The transaction, valued at $20,000, was completed in approximately seven minutes utilizing the Avalanche blockchain network, highlighting the potential for decentralized infrastructure to drastically accelerate international corporate payments.

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation involved Hyundai Motor’s United States and Mexican corporate units. Hyundai Motor America converted corporate funds into USDT, transferred the stablecoin across the blockchain network to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converted the digital assets back into traditional US dollars. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took about seven minutes. By comparison, traditional cross-border bank transfers typically require three to four hours or significantly longer depending on correspondent banking networks, time zones, and intermediary financial institutions.

The technical execution of the pilot relied on Axiym’s settlement infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card played a critical role by designing the overall remittance structure and overseeing the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept.

The primary objective of the pilot was to evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms can be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to internal governance, compliance frameworks, or accounting processes. Following the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to advance to a next phase that will expand testing to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements, allowing them to further evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate treasury has emerged as an increasingly vital focus area for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers, with firms rolling out dedicated products specifically designed to support international payments, liquidity management, and intercompany settlement.

This enterprise push is underscored by a series of recent industry developments. In April, major enterprise treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin into its platform. This collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside traditional cash positions, settle eligible cross-border and intercompany transactions in near-real time, and access essential liquidity outside of conventional banking hours while continuing to use their existing treasury workflows and internal approval controls.

Data from the digital asset sector further illustrates this expanding enterprise footprint. A Bitso Business report published this month revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This growth was primarily driven by corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, efficient treasury management, and cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of new business clients onboarded during the period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment service providers.

Business surveys likewise point to a broader wave of mainstream enterprise adoption. A June Paybis report found that approximately 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively plan to implement them within the next 12 months. Citing underlying research from McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for roughly 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.

This growing adoption coincides with a broader expansion of the overall stablecoin market. According to data from DefiLlama, the total market capitalization of the stablecoin sector has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% from the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier. Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin by total market capitalization, anchoring much of the activity observed across international digital asset markets as multinational corporations increasingly test and adopt blockchain-based financial rails.
