Hyundai completes USDT treasury settlement pilot between US and Mexico

According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border operation saw Hyundai Motor America convert corporate funds into USDT, execute the transfer across the border to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently convert the digital asset back into fiat US dollars. The entire transfer, including verification protocols, took roughly seven minutes to clear. In sharp contrast, conventional international wire transfers between traditional banking institutions typically require anywhere from three to four hours, and often longer depending on intermediary banks, time zone differences, and legacy clearing houses.

The successful proof-of-concept utilized specialized infrastructure provided by Axiym for settlement execution. Meanwhile, Hyundai Card engineered the overarching remittance structure, overseeing and managing the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational frameworks necessary to support the transaction.

Designed primarily as a strategic evaluation, the pilot aimed to determine whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms can be seamlessly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without requiring disruptive changes to internal governance, compliance frameworks, or traditional accounting workflows. Following the successful completion of this initial phase, the participating entities intend to expand their testing parameters to encompass additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate the broader implications for enterprise treasury workflows.

Corporate treasury has rapidly evolved into a critical focal point for stablecoin issuers and fintech infrastructure providers alike, with firms rolling out dedicated products specifically engineered to support cross-border payments, optimize liquidity management, and streamline intercompany settlement processes.

As traditional finance seeks greater efficiency, the integration of digital assets into enterprise operations has gained significant momentum. In April, treasury management software provider Kyriba announced a strategic partnership with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This collaboration allows corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances alongside conventional cash positions, execute eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, and access vital liquidity outside of traditional banking hours while leveraging existing enterprise workflows and internal approval controls.

Market data underscores this accelerating trend toward digital asset adoption within corporate finance. A comprehensive report published this month by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by 81% year over year during the first half of the year. This remarkable growth was fueled by mounting corporate demand for real-time settlement capabilities, sophisticated treasury management tools, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Furthermore, the data indicated that more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded during the period consisted of financial institutions, including traditional banks and licensed payment providers.

Broader business surveys similarly point to rapidly expanding enterprise adoption across various industries. A market report published in June by Paybis noted that 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international commercial payments or actively plan to implement them within the following twelve months. Citing extensive research from McKinsey, the report highlighted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in global stablecoin payment volume observed throughout the previous year.

This enterprise-driven push coincides with robust overall growth within the broader digital asset economy. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% compared to $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, according to metrics tracked by DefiLlama. Amid this ongoing market expansion, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin globally by total market value, serving as a primary instrument for both retail and institutional digital asset transactions.
