Anthropic Enters the AI Agent Race with the Launch of Claude Duet for Professionals and Small Businesses

The artificial intelligence landscape is currently flooded with an array of personal and productivity-based assistants, with new applications and platforms launching on a weekly basis to capture user attention. In a significant move to stake its claim in this rapidly expanding sector, Anthropic is now entering the battle with a new application called Claude Duet. The newly unveiled agent is designed to compete directly against a crowded field of rivals, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, as tech companies race to define the next generation of digital assistance.

Anthropic is strategically positioning Claude Duet to cater specifically to professionals and small businesses, aiming to help them streamline operations through task automation and management. In defining its market niche, the company is making a clear distinction between Duet and consumer-facing personal agents such as Instinct. Anthropic notes that Duet is not built to handle everyday consumer errands or book tickets, nor does it feature a transparent live browser-viewing capability that shows its navigation steps in real-time as it executes commands.

Instead, Claude Duet focuses on high-value workplace tasks. The agent is capable of building comprehensive daily briefings for busy users, generating custom dashboards, or proactively suggesting actions based on the user’s specific enterprise or professional data. Like other advanced autonomous agents emerging in the industry, Duet can complete complex tasks quietly in the background using its own dedicated virtual machine while the user attends to other matters. Once a task reaches a milestone or requires a decision, the agent returns to the user to request necessary approval before proceeding further.

The launch arrives at a pivotal moment as the broader technology market shifts away from simple conversational AI assistants toward intelligent agents capable of working autonomously on users’ behalf. Many of Anthropic’s chief competitors are also increasingly pivoting toward professional and business use cases. While Meta’s Muse initially gained traction as a personal AI assistant, the company subsequently released a specialized version tailored for small businesses with deep connections to other enterprise applications. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots carries a distinct business slant, reinforced by its integration with a wide variety of professional productivity tools.

Under the hood, Claude Duet is powered by Anthropic’s capable Claude Opus 5.5 model. The company emphasizes that Duet proactively delivers targeted recommendations and insights as it continuously monitors ongoing tasks and workflows. To maximize its utility in professional environments, Duet can seamlessly connect to over 6,000 different connectors and plugins available within the Claude Marketplace. Furthermore, the agent possesses the capability to execute online purchases on behalf of users by integrating smoothly with established digital payment infrastructures, including Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay.

To address security and financial risk, Anthropic has instituted strict guardrails around commercial transactions. The company stated that sensitive steps, such as authorizing payments, will strictly require explicit user approval before any transaction is finalized. However, to maintain conservative operational boundaries, Duet is intentionally programmed not to trade securities or move money between financial accounts, mitigating potential high-stakes financial liabilities for its user base.

Security and data privacy remain central pillars of the new release. Alongside Duet, Anthropic has introduced a sophisticated new classifier designed to inspect every individual message and interaction to prevent sensitive information from leaking out of corporate or personal environments. By default, the company noted, the agent is configured to firmly decline requests asking for sensitive data such as credit card numbers and government identification documents.

Claude Duet is currently being rolled out as a dedicated mobile application for both iOS and Android platforms, alongside web availability through Claude.ai. For its initial release phase, the product is accessible to Pro and Max tier customers as part of a research preview. Interested users are required to sign up for a waitlist in order to gain access and test the new agentic capabilities.
