Binance.US Seeks $100 Million Funding Round at $1 Billion Valuation to Reclaim Market Share

Binance.US, the American affiliate of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange ecosystem, is reportedly looking to raise up to $100 million in a fresh private funding round. According to recent reports, the capital injection would value the digital asset platform at approximately $1 billion as it attempts to aggressively expand its business operations and regain ground in the fiercely competitive United States market.

The potential $1 billion valuation marks a substantial contraction from the peak figures the company enjoyed during the height of the previous crypto bull market. In 2022, Binance.US successfully secured $200 million in a seed funding round that commanded a pre-money valuation of $4.5 billion. The steep decline in valuation reflects a turbulent multi-year period defined by intense regulatory scrutiny, enforcement actions against the broader cryptocurrency industry, and subsequent structural shifts within the American digital asset landscape.

According to insider accounts, Binance.US recently approached World Liberty Financial—the decentralized finance platform co-founded by United States President Donald Trump and his sons—to inform them about the ongoing funding round. However, despite the preliminary outreach, World Liberty Financial will not be participating in the investment.

The relationship between entities connected to the Trump family and the wider Binance ecosystem has previously intersected in high-profile ways. Last year, Binance was embroiled in a controversial $2 billion investment transaction that bridged an entity tied to United Arab Emirates royalty with World Liberty Financial, utilizing the platform’s USD1 stablecoin. While that arrangement drew significant public attention and scrutiny from financial observers, the current outreach for the Binance.US funding round has not yielded a financial commitment from the platform.

The proposed $100 million capital raise forms a crucial pillar of Binance.US’s overarching corporate strategy to regain market share against larger domestic and international rivals. The exchange’s growth trajectory was severely impacted following a landmark 2023 legal settlement between its global parent entity, Binance Holdings Ltd., and United States regulatory and law enforcement authorities.

As part of that sweeping resolution, Binance Holdings agreed to pay a staggering $4.3 billion in criminal and civil penalties while accepting stringent monitoring, compliance enhancements, and long-term federal oversight. Simultaneously, Changpeng Zhao, the charismatic co-founder and then-CEO of Binance, pleaded guilty to felony charges related to violations of the Bank Secrecy Act. Zhao subsequently completed a four-month prison sentence in the United States before receiving a presidential pardon from Donald Trump in 2025, an event that marked a significant chapter in the ongoing narrative surrounding the exchange and its leadership.

The fallout from the 2023 settlement forced Binance.US to drastically alter its operational model, curtailing various services, navigating banking partner departures, and adjusting to a deeply cautious regulatory environment within the United States. Competitors rushed to capture the liquidity and trading volume left behind by the retreating exchange, leading to a prolonged period of consolidation for Binance.US.

By pursuing fresh private capital now, management hopes to inject necessary resources into product development, technological infrastructure, and regulatory compliance frameworks. The company aims to position itself competitively as the domestic regulatory climate shows signs of potential evolution and institutional participation in digital assets stabilizes. Whether the $100 million funding round will attract sufficient institutional backing at the targeted $1 billion valuation remains to be seen as negotiations continue.
