JPMorgan Chase, the world’s biggest bank by market capitalization, is expanding the availability of its JPM Coin deposit token to the Ethereum network, according to a recent report. This strategic move marks another major milestone in the Wall Street giant’s ongoing integration of blockchain technology into traditional financial infrastructure, bringing its institutional-grade digital currency to one of the most widely used public execution environments in the digital asset ecosystem.
JPM Coin functions as a digital representation of United States dollar deposits held directly at JPMorgan Chase. By leveraging distributed ledger technology, the instrument allows eligible institutional clients to execute instantaneous fund transfers around the clock, bypassing the operational delays and traditional banking hours that have historically characterized legacy payment rails. This capability transforms how corporate treasuries and institutional counterparties manage liquidity on a global scale.
Elaborating on the strategic utility of the expansion, Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs, explained that cryptocurrency native companies could utilize the deposit token to streamline blockchain-based payments. At the same time, traditional financial institutions stand to benefit by employing the asset to settle complex trades and post collateral with unprecedented speed and efficiency.
Landriault noted that JPMorgan specifically selected Ethereum as a primary deployment venue due to its deep market liquidity and the network’s established, widespread adoption among the bank’s institutional client base. While the underlying tokens are issued on public blockchain networks, JPMorgan has emphasized that access to JPM Coin will remain strictly restricted to vetted, approved institutional participants, ensuring compliance with rigorous regulatory frameworks and internal security standards.
This latest expansion builds directly upon JPMorgan’s previous rollout of JPM Coin on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network developed by major cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, which took place in November 2025. At the time of that deployment, representatives for JPMorgan indicated that the financial institution maintained a broader roadmap to gradually support a wider array of public blockchains as part of its multi-chain strategy. Demonstrating continued momentum in early 2026, JPMorgan announced its intention to bring the USD JPM Coin natively to the Canton Network, further broadening the token’s accessibility across institutional enterprise platforms.
The ongoing evolution of the bank’s digital asset initiatives highlights a broader industry trend where traditional financial giants increasingly test and adopt tokenized solutions to optimize operational workflows. Notably, recent reports have also highlighted how international institutions, such as Argentine banks, have been actively testing JPMorgan’s JPM Coin to drastically accelerate cross-border settlement times and reduce friction in foreign exchange and trade finance.
Cointelegraph reached out to representatives at JPMorgan Chase seeking additional commentary and operational details regarding the Ethereum deployment, but did not receive an immediate response at the time of publication.
