Bitmine Immersion Technologies has officially drawn a line under its aggressive accumulation phase, establishing a hard cap on its Ether holdings at precisely 5% of the cryptocurrency’s total circulating supply. The announcement was made by company Chairman Tom Lee during a high-profile keynote address at the Token2049 conference in Singapore on Wednesday, drawing intense interest from market participants, institutional investors, and digital asset analysts alike.
Speaking to a packed audience at the major industry gathering, Lee revealed that Bitmine is currently standing right on the precipice of that threshold. The company has successfully accumulated approximately 6 million Ether, which translates to roughly 4.9% of the entire asset’s supply. According to Lee, the corporate treasury only requires about 100,000 additional tokens to officially cross the finish line and reach the self-imposed ceiling.
"That’s a hard cap. We’re not gonna be accumulating past 5%," Lee told the audience during his keynote speech, emphasizing the definitive nature of the corporate policy. "We’re not gonna own more than 5% of Ethereum."
The announcement brings clarity to a corporate accumulation strategy that had previously left room for speculation. Lee had previously left open the possibility of pushing past the 5% mark, contingent upon broader global adoption milestones and the evolving macroeconomic landscape of the Ethereum network. In an interview with crypto media outlet Bankless back in August, Lee had hinted that the company might revisit the conversation surrounding its supply limits by 2027. However, the latest statements from Singapore firmly slam the door on those extended accumulation ambitions for the foreseeable future, marking a distinct strategic pivot for the digital asset treasury firm.
Bitmine Says It Is “Done Stacking” Ether
Delving into the background of the massive acquisition campaign, Lee explained that the vast majority of Bitmine’s multi-billion-dollar Ether treasury was built during a protracted digital asset bear market. By stepping up as a massive institutional buyer while broader market sentiment was deeply depressed and prices were sliding, the firm played a prominent role in absorbing downward market pressure.

"We did all this buying in a bear market," Lee noted, reflecting on the timing and execution of the corporate strategy. "We protected the downside for ETH because we were buying. But now, we’re done stacking in front of a 25X move."
The decision to draw a firm boundary at 5% is intrinsically tied to Bitmine’s broader financial engineering and capital allocation roadmap. By formally halting its open-market accumulation of Ether, the company effectively eliminates the ongoing operational pressure to continuously raise fresh capital for the sole purpose of purchasing more digital assets. This structural shift, Lee argued, positions the firm advantageously for the future, reassuring shareholders and equity markets that the treasury dilution associated with continuous asset acquisition has come to an end.
"So if we have a 5% hard cap, that means we’re gonna outperform ETH on the way up, right?" Lee explained, elaborating on the market positioning of the company. "Cause you don’t have to worry about us trying to raise capital. We’re done."
The journey to amassing such a colossal crypto war chest has required sophisticated navigation of traditional capital markets. Earlier this year, in June, Bitmine turned heads across the financial sector by launching a $300 million perpetual preferred stock offering, leveraging dividend-paying shares to fund its aggressive corporate strategy in a manner reminiscent of other prominent corporate treasury pioneers. Momentum continued into the summer months, and by early August, the company reported that it had successfully repurchased 16.1 million common shares under a sweeping $4 billion buyback program designed to optimize shareholder value.
Even though the era of open-market accumulation is drawing to a close, Bitmine’s exposure to the Ethereum ecosystem will continue to evolve through network participation, most notably via staking rewards. The company’s massive crypto treasury is projected to generate substantial cash flows; previous estimates highlighted by Bitmine anticipate roughly $334 million in annual staking revenue derived from its $15.8 billion digital asset reserves.
To manage the strict 5% supply ceiling while continuing to harvest staking yields, Bitmine has previously indicated that it may systematically sell off the ETH rewards earned through validator operations. This tactical maneuver would ensure that the company’s absolute share of the total circulating Ethereum supply remains strictly locked at or below the 5% threshold, balancing ongoing revenue generation with corporate policy compliance.
