The capital drain sweeping across United States spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has intensified significantly, with cumulative monthly withdrawals surpassing the $1 billion threshold and establishing a grim milestone for the asset class. According to comprehensive market data compiled by SoSoValue, net outflows from these digital asset investment vehicles have reached a staggering $1.08 billion since the beginning of October. This sharp capital flight came despite a modest single-day net addition of $26 million recorded on Tuesday, which did little to stem the broader, heavier tide of redemption pressures dominating the market throughout the month.

The severe downturn observed in October has completely dismantled the recovery momentum that these financial products built up during the previous month. Specifically, the heavy withdrawals witnessed over the past few weeks have effectively wiped out the entirety of September’s net inflows, which stood at a robust $832 million. Consequently, the year-to-date net inflows for US spot Ether ETFs have been drastically compressed, leaving the aggregate yearly metric sitting at approximately $485 million.
Market analysts examining the trajectory note that October has already booked the largest monthly net outflow for the product category since November 2025. This achievement is particularly striking given that the month still features eight full trading sessions before coming to a close, leaving an open window for further adjustments depending on broader macroeconomic and digital asset market conditions.

The pronounced wave of capital withdrawals has arrived in lockstep with a difficult period for Ether’s underlying spot price. Throughout October, ETH has experienced a substantial downward correction, sliding by roughly 9.7% from the $2,700 mark down to approximately $2,438 by the time of publication. When viewed through a broader lens, the leading smart contract token faces an even steeper challenge on an annualized basis. CoinGecko data indicates that ETH is down nearly 18% overall throughout the course of 2026, reflecting persistent macro and sector-specific headwinds that have weighed heavily on investor sentiment and institutional risk appetite alike.
In contrast, the market dynamics surrounding United States spot Bitcoin ETFs have traced a slightly different path, though they too show signs of cooling following earlier bursts of activity. Bitcoin-focused investment products recorded $23 million in net inflows on Tuesday, adding to a substantially larger influx of $527 million observed at the start of the week on Monday. Despite this early-week strength, the broader monthly picture for Bitcoin ETFs remains somewhat subdued.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs have registered approximately $67 million in net outflows across the month of October as a whole. This recent monthly friction leaves the aggregate year-to-date net inflows for spot Bitcoin investment vehicles sitting at roughly $809 million, according to figures tracked by SoSoValue.
The underlying price action for the world’s largest cryptocurrency has mirrored this measured momentum. At the time of publication, Bitcoin was changing hands at $82,954, representing a modest decline of 2.2% since the dawn of October. Looking at the wider performance of the asset throughout the year, Bitcoin is currently down by about 5.3% year-to-date, demonstrating a degree of relative resilience compared to the sharper double-digit percentage drops seen in the alternative coin sector over the same timeframe.
