Binance.US seeks $1B valuation in potential $100M funding round: Report

The US-based digital asset platform is pursuing private investment as part of a broader strategic initiative to expand its business operations within a fiercely competitive and heavily scrutinized domestic market. However, the potential $1 billion valuation highlights a stark recalibration for the company, sitting well below the $4.5 billion pre-money valuation it secured during a previous milestone in 2022. At that time, the exchange successfully raised $200 million in its inaugural seed funding round, capitalizing on a roaring crypto bull market and significantly higher market confidence.

As part of its outreach for the current fundraising effort, Binance.US reportedly informed World Liberty Financial—the decentralized finance crypto platform co-founded by US President Donald Trump and his sons—about the funding round. Despite the communication, sources indicate that World Liberty Financial will not be participating in the investment. This intersection brings back memories of complex political and financial entanglements from the previous year, when Binance became embroiled in a controversial $2 billion investment involving an entity tied to United Arab Emirates royalty and World Liberty, utilizing the platform’s USD1 stablecoin.

The proposed funding round is widely viewed by market observers as part of Binance.US’s ongoing efforts to claw back lost market share against larger domestic and international rivals. The exchange’s operational landscape shifted dramatically following a landmark 2023 legal settlement between its global affiliate, Binance Holdings Ltd., and United States regulatory and law enforcement authorities.

As part of that sweeping agreement, Binance Holdings agreed to pay a staggering $4.3 billion in criminal and civil penalties, alongside accepting the implementation of extensive additional monitoring and corporate governance oversight. Concurrently, Changpeng Zhao, the charismatic co-founder and then-CEO of Binance who had long steered the global empire, stepped down from his executive role and pleaded guilty to a felony charge related to anti-money laundering compliance failures. Zhao subsequently completed a four-month sentence in a US federal prison before ultimately receiving a presidential pardon from Donald Trump in 2025.

The ripple effects of those regulatory actions left Binance.US navigating a compressed operational footprint, facing heightened banking friction, and watching its daily trading volumes contract significantly as institutional and retail users reassessed their counterparty risk. By pursuing up to $100 million in new capital, the exchange is signaling its intent to shore up its balance sheet, invest in compliant infrastructure, and aggressively position itself for a potential resurgence in the evolving US regulatory climate.

While the cryptocurrency sector continues to adapt to changing political dynamics and regulatory expectations, exchanges operating within the United States face the dual challenge of rebuilding consumer trust while meeting stringent compliance standards. For Binance.US, successfully executing this funding round at a $1 billion valuation would represent an important validation of its ongoing restructuring process, even as it operates at a fraction of its former peak valuation from just a few years prior. Market participants will continue to monitor whether prospective investors step forward to back the platform’s American expansion strategy as the capital-raising efforts progress.
