Automotive giant Hyundai Motor has taken a significant step toward modernizing its international financial operations. The company’s United States and Mexican units have successfully completed a pilot cross-border treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT stablecoin, settling a $20,000 payment in approximately seven minutes on the Avalanche blockchain.
According to details provided by Tether, the cross-border transaction involved Hyundai Motor America converting corporate funds into USDT, transferring the stablecoin digitally to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and subsequently converting the digital asset back into fiat US dollars upon arrival. The entire end-to-end transfer and verification process took about seven minutes to complete. In stark contrast, traditional cross-border bank transfers for similar transactions typically require three to four hours, and often significantly longer depending on intermediary banking relationships and processing cut-off times.
The successful pilot leveraged the settlement infrastructure provided by Axiym, while Hyundai Card played a crucial instrumental role by designing the overall remittance structure. Furthermore, Hyundai Card oversaw the rigorous regulatory, compliance, accounting, and operational requirements necessary to support the proof of concept safely and securely.
The primary objective of the pilot was to carefully evaluate whether stablecoin-based settlement mechanisms could be smoothly integrated into existing corporate treasury operations without necessitating sweeping changes to established governance, compliance, or accounting workflows. Building on the success of this initial test, the participating companies plan to expand their testing phase to additional payment corridors and local currency settlements as they continue to evaluate broader enterprise treasury workflows for future deployment.
Corporate Treasury Emerges as Key Stablecoin Use Case
Corporate treasury has rapidly evolved into an increasingly important area of focus for stablecoin issuers and blockchain infrastructure providers. Across the broader financial and technology sectors, firms are actively rolling out specialized products and integrations explicitly designed to support streamlined cross-border payments, efficient liquidity management, and rapid intercompany settlement.

The push toward blockchain-based enterprise tools has gained notable momentum over recent months and years. In April, prominent treasury management software provider Kyriba partnered with Circle to integrate the USDC stablecoin directly into its enterprise treasury platform. This strategic collaboration was designed to allow corporate treasury teams to manage stablecoin balances side-by-side with traditional cash positions. Furthermore, the integration enables enterprises to settle eligible cross-border and intercompany payments in near-real time, while also granting them the ability to access liquidity outside of traditional banking hours by utilizing existing enterprise treasury workflows and established internal approval controls.
Market data underscores this surging institutional demand for real-time digital asset solutions. A comprehensive business report published by Bitso Business revealed that stablecoin transaction volumes processed on its platform surged by an impressive 81% year over year during the first half of 2026. This remarkable growth was primarily driven by corporate demand for real-time settlement, advanced treasury management, and efficient cross-border liquidity solutions. Notably, more than 60% of the new business clients onboarded by the platform during that period consisted of traditional financial institutions, including commercial banks and licensed payment providers.
Broader business surveys similarly point to accelerating enterprise adoption across multiple industries. A June report published by Paybis indicated that roughly 22.5% of surveyed businesses either already utilize stablecoins for international payments or actively plan to implement them within the subsequent 12 months. Citing extensive research from management consulting firm McKinsey, the report noted that business-to-business transactions accounted for approximately 60% of the estimated $390 billion in total global stablecoin payment volume recorded in 2025.
This expanding enterprise footprint coincides with the continued overall growth of the wider stablecoin market. Total stablecoin market capitalization has climbed to approximately $312.3 billion, representing an increase of roughly 21.5% from the $257.1 billion recorded a year earlier, according to data compiled by DefiLlama. Amid this ongoing market expansion, Tether’s USDT continues to maintain its position as the largest stablecoin measured by total market value.
